I’ve reached the age where I’ve been attending Celebrations of Life, waaay too often recently.
They are memorials to a life well lived. The celebrations themselves pivot between real tear
jerkers, to outrageously, gut busting funny as each friend or family member talks about some
event or memory and what that person meant to them. I’m extremely thankful that he or she
passed through my life, no matter how briefly … But here is the Kicker ...
These celebrations end fundamentally the same way: a sense of closure, a lifting of sadness, hugs
all around and a promise to get together in the future (probably at our celebration of life) … It’s
the universal comment that has me Rattled … “He or She would have Loved this if they were
here” or “I wished I could have given them one more hug” one more anything… which brings
me to the point of writing this … Why Wait?
We have no idea what our time on this earth will be. And we like a party as much as the next. If
we’re the one getting celebrated, we’d like to be there to celebrate. We want to get and give that
next big hug. We also don’t want friends and family having more fun than us if we’re only there
in spirit. So, no matter the occasion, birthday, retirement, anniversary, picnic, friends giving,
turn your celebration into a “Celebration of Life for a Life Well Lived” … You deserve it!
I think I’ll throw myself a party!

P.S. Here at the Island View, we are seeing more guest planning and throwing parties for
themselves. Not out of arrogance, but love, as they share their life and hugs with friends and
family. These are the good old days so let’s enjoy them:)
About us: Island View Waterfront is an independent, locally-owned wedding venue near Baltimore Maryland. We have been family owned and operated since 1968. What started as a small bar and marina (read the history here), we are proud to be the currant stewards of this waterfront property on the Chesapeake Bay.

When you choose an independent, locally owned venue like ours, you work directly with the owner, and third generation operator Jessica, throughout your entire wedding planning process!
We are committed to supporting other locally owned wedding venues around the country. A shout-out to the following venues who are offering their continued support and encouragement:
